ロシア軍がキエフ近郊に残していったのは破壊された戦車だけではない。虐殺、レイプ、拷問、誘拐。1ヶ月ほどの占領下に彼らが住民に対して行った数々の蛮行が明らかになりつつある。地元警察による調査が続き我々ジャーナリストも証言を拾い集めているが、規模が大きすぎて全体像を明らかにするのは極めて困難だ。人々の話を聞く限りロシア軍の規律は崩壊していたとしか思えない。憎悪と恐怖を擦り込まれた若い兵士たちにとってその行動を抑制するものなどないに等しかったのではないか。そしてそれこそが戦争というものの実相なのだろう。
Destroyed tanks are not the only thing the Russians left behind on the
outskirts of Kiev. Massacres, rapes, torture, and kidnappings are
beginning to reveal the many barbaric acts they perpetrated against
residents during their month-long occupation. The local police
continue to investigate and we journalists are gathering testimonies,
but the scale is so large that it is extremely difficult to get a
complete picture. From what people are telling us, we can only assume
that the discipline of the Russian military had collapsed. The young
soldiers, imbued with hatred and fear, had no inhibitions about their
actions. And that, I suppose, is the reality of war.
