In a world where conflicts continue to rage, nuclear abolition has made no progress.
As the only country to have experienced the atomic bombing, Japan is supposed to be leading the world in nuclear abolition, but after the worst accident in history in Fukushima, Japan is still trying to restart nuclear power plants.
Nagasaki will be the last place to be bombed. Why did the Japanese, who should have known the horror of radiation better than anyone else, cause the Fukushima accident?
And why do they still insist on nuclear power?
With these questions in mind, Ruiko, a third-generation A-bomb survivor from Nagasaki, travels to Fukushima and Aomori to see the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
During her trip, Ruiko learns that Japan possesses a large amount of plutonium.
This is the same plutonium that was used to make the Fat Man atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki.
Why in the world?
Eventually, Ruiko learns a fact that has been hidden from her by politicians.
As a person born in Nagasaki, she can never forgive this fact…
Protonium connects Nagasaki, Fukushima, Aomori, and the United States. A road movie that follows Ruiko’s journey.
